Next to Christmas dinner, Christmas dessert is a key part of most Christmas holidays. This is usually the time when the presents have been unwrapped, the kids are playing with their toys, and the adults get to enjoy a special treat to wrap up their special Christmas holiday. If you are planning dessert for your loved ones this year, please remember that this shouldn’t be the most stressful part of your holiday. While cooking paleo does sometimes mean that you spend a bit of extra time in the kitchen, there are ways to make your family healthy desserts without overextending yourself.
One of the easiest ways to accomplish this is to cook one dessert in a large batch. Because you won’t have to go through the stress of cooking multiple desserts to satisfy multiple tastebuds, you will be able to put your attention on other things while the first batch is cooking. When that batch is done, you can use the same dishes to make the second batch. This doesn’t just save you time in the kitchen, it is also a good way to cut back on spending during the holidays. Instead of buying ingredients for multiple desserts, leaving most of what you buy sitting on a shelf until you make that dessert again, you can use all of the ingredients that you just purchased to batch cook your dessert. For example, if you were baking paleo pumpkin squares and paleo cookies, you may not need the full bag of coconut flour that you are using for the squares. But if you are only making batches of the pumpkin squares, you will use more of that coconut flour. In both instances, you are getting the same amount of flour but in one instance you are saving money.
If you are looking for something delicious and warm to bake, consider a dessert casserole/cobbler. Not only will a few of these be enough to feed a large number of people, but in many cases, you can change one or two ingredients and have a completely different dessert. For example, if you made a blackberry cobbler you could go back and create a blueberry or peach cobbler as well, giving your guests multiple options while you are still cooking off of the same basic ingredients.
Cake pops are another fun dessert to make. You can make a large batch of them at once and tweak the ingredients slightly to give your guests multiple options. The other great thing about cake pops is that they are easy for kids to enjoy and you won’t have to worry about dessert cleanup. While some people don’t associate cake with Christmas, pumpkin cake pops, apple cake pops, and gingerbread cake pops will be a wonderful addition to any holiday table.
And of course, if all else fails, you can’t go wrong with paleo Christmas cookies. Whether you are making gingerbread cookies or traditional sugar cookies, you can find a paleo variation for almost any recipe. Christmas cookies are also a great dessert idea because they are easy to make and can give little helpers something to keep them occupied while you are busy in the kitchen. Whether they are using Christmas molds to cut out cookies or they are decorating gingerbread men, the kids in your life will love being a part of the celebration.
Christmas dessert should be an easy way to wrap up the festivities of the day. These are just a few of the simple ways that you can make your holiday festivities more memorable while keeping your food stress and budget to a minimum.
